The Xhosa woman of the Wild Coast region of South Africa still practice their old traditions & are wonderful home makers. Many woman spend months alone raising their children as the men go to the cities in search of employment to send much needed money back home. They walk long distances along the remote beaches seeking muscles, rock bait & oysters along the rugged coastline & still find time to make their craft beadwork to sell to the occasional tourist. We visit the home of Evelina, a Xhosa woman born on the wild coast, who welcomes you to her village with song & dance sharing the traditions.....this is a 2 hour beach hike & then into the hills to reach her mud & thatched roof home!
